History
Lissandra is heir to House Veirnan, in east Korin, a house with a high incidence of female births. Eldest of triplets, her mother died in childbed, and with her father, Lord Symeon, being still young and a grieving widower, she and her sisters were brought up under the wing of her domineering grandmother, Lady Fiona.
Lady Fiona insisted on complete control of her grandaughters' upbringing, and Symeon, a quiet and gentle man who preferred to avoid confrontation with his mother when possible, relented. Without an immediate female role model to look up to, Lissandra grew to idolise her formidable grandmother, and her mother's absence became a non-issue. Lady Fiona was a forceful person in will and spirit, steely and outspoken, ruler of Veirnan in her own right, and Lissandra was in awe of the woman and her frequent demonstrations of power, even over her father, and imitated her out of admiration from a young age. It is now often said that Lissandra is Fiona all over again, only four foot seven and growing.
Lady Fiona died when Lissandra and her sisters were six years old, after a long, painful illness. Lissandra was devastated and angry. In her mind, if Fiona was to die (a possiblity that was hard to believe at the time, for Lissandra had always fancied her grandmother immortal), she deserved to die in a blaze of glory, leading a charge in a battlefield, just like in the history books she insisted Lissandra read, not wasting away in bed to some excruciating disease. Determined that no one in her family will ever die so painfully ever again, not under her watch, she set about learning to be a healer.
She has never quite forgotten how her father was not good enough to save her grandmother.
Personality
Lissandra tries to be the astute and intelligent noblewoman and heir her grandmother wanted, eloquent in speech and the written word, well versed in history, politics and strategy, and more than capable with both weapons and magic. At heart, however, she is a bold, outspoken and sometimes haughty girl who says her piece, and then some. She is turning out to be just as domineering as the grandmother she admired, much to her father's dismay, bossing around her sisters with varied results (she insists that it is for practice for when she'll be ruler of Veirnan); Lian is more likely to comply with Lissandra's demands, with more nettling, while Linnell is more inclined, like Lissandra herself, to rebel. This is not to say that Lissandra is a dictator in the making, but rather relfects on her stubborn insistance that she knows best among her sisters, because she is the oldest, she is the heir, and she was Grandmother's favourite, and Grandmother was so much stronger and prettier than Father is.
Nevertheless, it had hurt Lissandra a little when she learned that she was not her father's favourite. She is much more clever than her sisters, better at healing than them, and much stronger, so why isn't she the favourite, when she was Grandmother's? Over time, this mattered less and less, as she saw that the title of ruler did not, in fact, mean that a person would instantly turn bold and strong and all-knowing, a figure that she would emulate. There are times when she thinks her father is too soft, too passive, too weak, times where she secretly looks down on him, but she is a good daughter at heart, and she would do anything to ensure his happiness.
Appearance
Lissandra has inherited more of her looks from her mother than her father, with long lilac hair that is held back with a headband or a bonnet, and large red eyes. She wears long, frilly dresses of white and purple, with many layers and skirts to combat against the cold. She is tall for her age, her skin is pale and she is prone to burning.
